How does needling work?

Dermapen Skin Needling works by creating controlled micro holes with the aim of inducing collagen and elastin production known as CIT (collagen induction therapy). This stimulates the natural wound healing response within the skin producing collagen and releasing growth factors. This process continues to work within the skin for over 4-6 weeks!

What do I need to do before my needling appointment?

For optimum results we recommend the use of an excellent homecare routine including a Vit A, C & B to help with the integrity of the skin. Vit A must be stopped 3 days before your needling appointment. You must avoid sun exposure leading up to your appointment and after your appointment for 2 weeks. A minimum of SPF 30+  MUST be used daily when having treatment. Not sure what to use? Call the clinic to discuss what your best options are to maximise your results!

What do I need to do after my needling appointment?

You can expect your skin to have some redness up to 24-48 hours. Clients can usually return to their day to day activities immediately post needling. However it is recommended not to sweat or do anything that may leave the treatment area dirty. Heat is also expected after this treatment and usually subsides within 24 hours. Majority of client leave with a radiant glow on their face after their Dermapen Skin Needling session. Dryness can also be common following a needling session.

What is the downtime?

To keep your skin cool, avoid activities that make you sweat or get dirty. Also, refrain from using harsh scrubs, active ingredients or touching your face. It's best to avoid makeup for 24 hours and keep your skin hydrated, and don't forget to change your pillowcase to avoid contamination.

Does it hurt?

Every client experiences this treatment differently. There is some level of discomfort particularly on areas of the body with minimal body fat such as our foreheads. Most clients describe the feeling as 'scratchy' and manage perfectly fine.

What areas can I get needled?

We can treat nearly any area of the body with needling! The most common areas are full face including eye lids and lips, neck, décolletage, backs of hands and areas of scarring whether it be surgical or from an injury. Stretch marks and C-Section scars can also be treated.

Please keep in mind multiple treatments are recommended for optimal results particularly when treating scarring/ stretch marks.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed will depend on the area being treated, the skins condition and the desired outcome. Majority of clients will have 3-6 sessions although some will require more. Scarring will usually require 6-12 sessions. It is best to book a skin consultation to discuss this in depth before beginning your needling journey!
